Mental health illness support network for People working with people

Four AM Blogg about their Mental Health

on November 28, 2012

Four people have each written a blog about their experience of mental ill health, which will be published on the Time to Change Wales website at about 9:30am. At approximately 2:30pm they will stand up in front of a group of people and talk about their own experiences.

The special thing about tomorrow is that these four people are all Assembly Members (Eluned Parrott AM, Ken Skates AM, Llyr Huws Gruffydd AM and David Melding AM) and they will be standing up in the National Assembly for Wales during a debate on mental health stigma and discrimination. This debate will also be broadcast live on the BBC Democracy Live website.

Talking about your own mental ill health is a brave thing for anyone to do, but the added political risk makes this an incredibly courageous move on their part, especially as recent Time to Change Wales research showed that one in four people believe that someone with a mental health problem should not be allowed to hold public office.  They are understandably nervous, but utterly committed to trying to make a difference to people’s lives.

We have been working with these AMs over the past 2-3 months, and it is fantastic that Time to Change Wales has been able to play a leading role in such a significant event. Apologies for being unable to share this sooner, but due to the sensitive nature of this debate we had to be extremely strict on confidentiality.

You are likely to see coverage on BBC Wales news, ITV Wales news and BBC Radio Wales/Cymru, as well as in the Western Mail, North Wales Daily Post, Wrexham and Flintshire Leaders, Golwg and other newspapers.

  1. Rosalinda says:

Very interesting subject, thanks for putting up.

  2. Unquestionably believe that which you said. Your favorite justification appeared to be on the net the easiest thing to be aware of. I say to you, I certainly get annoyed while people consider worries that they just don’t know about. You managed to hit the nail upon the top as well as defined out the whole thing without having side effect , people could take a signal. Will probably be back to get more. Thanks
